A big blow for the Festival

On Tuesday, June 11th 2013, Simos Kedikoglou, the governmental press representative, announced that the Greek Government would shut down  ERT (the Greek National Broadcaster).

The evening of the same day our TVs became black! This development causes a very serious blow to our Festival.  Large cuts in funding both from the Region of Western  Greece and the Ministry of Culture were already proceeded. Read more of this post

Whoever was coming every day to the Festival’s offices at the Conference Hall of Pyrgos, could see two beautiful young ladies at the end of a large hallway, next to the animation boxes, always sitting in the same spot.

Οver a bunch of coroful papers, spending endless hours drawing with their pencils.

For the Festival’s colleagues, they weren’t unfamiliar faces. It was Ksenija and Sofija from Belgrade. They were members of the Media Education Center  delegation (6 persons). This time, they had a particular mission in Pyrgos. Read more of this post

7th Busan International Kids’ Film Festival(20-24 July 2012) Call for Entry!

Busan International Kids’ Film Festival(BiKi) is a visual culture festivity for children who will lead the future of Busan known as City of film and visual arts. We provide not only pleasures but a ground for visual arts education as well. Having started its pre-festival in 2005, BiKi has been holding a festival every year in August since 2006 during summer vacation for school children. The 7th BiKi Festival in the year of 2012 will be held from 20th through 24th in July.

“Ready~Action!” is only competition section of BiKi which films are made by 6-16 year-old kids & youths in and out Korea themselves. During the festival, the kiduth Jury will choose the best films in the final screening, which are well angled toward kids’ points of view. Read more of this post

The Value of the Olympia International Children and Youth Festival in Greece

 Concurrent with the last post highlighting Renate Zylla’s view of strong European countries, I’ve learned that important film festivals, namely Amsterdam’s Cinekid and The Olympia Festival in Greece are at dire risk of losing their national funding. Like Cinekid, The Olympia Festival is unique in its concept and extends the rich cultural experience of the international film program through other festival facets that provide a place for young people to meet, collaborate and see each other’s audiovisual work through new technologies.
