Youth in action (2007)

The European program “Youth in Action” is taking place in Greece with the subject “Myths – Society – Enviroment: Audiovisual approaches” with the participation of 42 young people from Europe.

The final phase will take place from 1 to 8 December at Pyrgos, Ilia, in parallel with two of the greatest international organisations of cinema for children and young people the 10th Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People and the 7th Camera Zizanio.

This way, the young europeans will also have the chance to see a selection of the most recent films for chldren and young people, and also to meet many greek and foreign professionals of cinema.

Their place of action, the area of Ilia, rich in fables and history, especially after the terrible destruction of last August’s fires, gives a new dimension to their work. The natural environment of the whole planet is threatened and a common and immediate reaction of all is required, in order to saved it, and together with it, save the old cultural heritage of Ancient Olympia, a place of unity of the humanity.

So, this is the place where one of the main objectives can be materialised, e.g. the deeper acquaintance of young people with the myths, the natural and social environment of their countries and other countries, so that they can realise that they belong to the big European family, where the resemblances are more than the differences and particularity is charming, and not scaring.

Children from Sweden, Cyprus, Germany, Holland, France, Hungary and Greece participate in this action.

The organisation of the programme “Youth in Action” in Greece is made by Youth Plan with the support of the General Secretariat of Youth.
