On Tuesday, June 11th 2013, Simos Kedikoglou, the governmental press representative, announced that the Greek Government would shut down ERT (the Greek National Broadcaster).
The evening of the same day our TVs became black! This development causes a very serious blow to our Festival. Large cuts in funding both from the Region of Western Greece and the Ministry of Culture were already proceeded.
The abolition of ERT and the creation of a new very small public broadcaster, forebodes nothing good for the culture in Greece.
For 16 years, ERT was constant sponsor of the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People and Camera Zizanio. In addition, the ERΑ of Pyrgos (the regional radio station of ERT) has always had “open” microphones at our Festival.
The Studio was always available for the editorial team of the newspaper “Zizanio” to make their own broadcasts.
In 2010 during the Festival, the technicians of ERA of Pyrgos created a separate studio which functioned both as a radio lab. With the help of the director, technicians and journalists, children (from Greece and abroad) created their own broadcasts which later were transmitted on the national network.
We do not want to believe that this will stop.
The photos below are from the radio station at the Festival in 2010.
