Jugend – Medienfestival of Berlin

One more festival experience was recently added to the Zizanio kids’ assets, this time in Germany!

The Greek films selected to participate and compete in Jugend – Medienfestival of Berlin were “Love in WC” by the 12 year-old Sofianos Santatsoglou and “Emma and the History Exam”, short film made during the 1^st Skopelos International Film Festival for Youth by the children in the workshops.

As both these films had been awarded in the last Camera Zizanio film Festival, they can be characterised as a small yet explicit sample of the short films being screened in our festival every year.

Jugend – Medienfestival took place from the 26th – 30th of May 2010 in Berlin and it was one more opportunity for the Zizanio kids, Sofianos Santatsoglou and Gesthimani Roumpani in particular, to meet more creators, watch more films, admire, compare.

Approximately 109 were the films which were screened. From Poland, Sweden, Italy, United Kingdom, Romania, Germany, Brazil, Ireland, Switzerland, Korea, Greece, Lebanon, Iran, Croatia, Austria, Russia, Belgium, Slovenia, Faroa Islands, Hungary, Finland and Canada, all made by children and young people between the age of 6 and 27, showed the imagination and knowledge someone can have on the subject of cinematography to create their own story, their own scenario just with a camera, proving that film language is global and has no limits. During the Festival, some workshops for the German students took place, promoting their first direct contact with the field of film-making.

The Greek entries aroused the admiration of the viewers and the rest of the contestants, especially “Love in WC” by young Sofianos, since you cannot help but wonder how a kid of that age could create such a smart animation film.

So after Zizanio kids “conquered” Berlin, their travels and gathering of experience do not stop here. They will continue participating in even more Festivals, in even more countries and this is just a small taste of what “Zizanio” means!
