Camera Zizanio

The 16th Camera Zizanio (December 3 to 10, 2016 ) will be totally unlike any other. Seeking to be the most real voice of children and young people all over the world, the most representative step of young people’s audiovisual creation, it takes the great leap. The international section that has been until now only informative, becomes competitive. And it is added in already pre-existing sections, the European and the Greek one.

From the 1400 and more submissions that we received, we selected:

21 movies for the international section. Movies coming from 12 countries from all continents: Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Iran, Irak, India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, United States, South Africa, Thailand. Films which will astonish!

98 movies coming from almost all over Europe: Austria, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Czech Republic, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Kosovo, Croatia, Cyprus, Belarus, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Holland, Ukraine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey. Record of entries!

In the Greek section we show all movies meeting the requirements for participation, without exclusion, which are produced by young people within and outside the school environment, numbering 123 screenings. Record number of entries compared to last year that was 110.

Doing the addition, we see that the participation of children and young people in the 16th Camera Zizanio consists of 40 countries. However, this arithmetic hides the truth. Εspecially as it comes to light nowadays. With the displacement of large groups of populations from their countries of origin because of brutal conflicts and acts of war, huge disasters, poverty, climate change. On a planet in big disorder and in societies in transition.

In which countries should we classify the refugee children from Afghanistan who create in Austria, the children from Africa in Spain, from Syria in Turkey and in Germany, Serb refugees from Kosovo in Slovenia, from Albania in Greece… The world of young people’s audiovisual creation has no borders.

It emerges above hedges and murderous seas, finding shelter in the world of quests, dialogue, common grounds, that connect young people and create hopes for the future.

For this reason, Camera Zizanio cannot be and is not a standart festival. In absolute agreement with its designation as ”Meeting of young people’s audiovisual creation’‘, it is preparing to receive more than 120 young persons coming from many countries but also hundreds of Greek children. Making a big forum of dialogue but also artistic creation through the multinational filmmaking workshops.

In that way, each organisation is not the end of a journey, but the beginning of a new one, more hopeful.
